The country’s Medical Sciences universities have graduated thousands of doctors and specialists from numerous nations, consolidating Cuba as a comprehensive and respected health education system worldwide.

The curriculum design of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Cuba is based on the clinical method and education through work. More than 80% of postgraduate study plans follow this approach, ensuring that students actively participate in medical care from their first year.

A Wide Range of Specialties, Master’s Degrees, and Doctorates

Cuba offers more than 50 medical specialties, including Dermatology, Imaging, Aesthetic Surgery, Anesthesiology and Resuscitation, Cardiovascular Surgery, and Burn Surgery.

In addition, more than 40 master’s programs and the option to pursue doctoral studies are available, depending on the student’s research area.

Courses, Training, and Diplomas: Tailored Professional Development

Alongside traditional academic programs, the Cuban system offers a broad catalog of more than 300 courses, diplomas, and training programs that contribute to professional improvement. Among the most in-demand topics are Minimally Invasive Surgery, Infectious and Tropical Diseases, Dengue, and Primary Health Care.

When a student requires specific training objectives that do not fully match existing offerings, a customized or “tailored” program can be designed, adding content that facilitates degree recognition according to the regulations of the student’s home country.

Training also constitutes an essential pathway for developing practical skills, especially in surgical specialties, where precision and dexterity are key.

International Access and Application Process

Academic Services programs are managed by Servicios Médicos Cubanos and are open to professionals from all regions of the world. Many students who complete their undergraduate studies in Cuba choose to continue their training on the Island, while those arriving for the first time also find a clear and accessible admission process.

The official call is distributed through Cuban medical brigades, Cuban embassies abroad, and the institutional SMC website, where requirements and available academic offerings are detailed.
