Every April 7th, we commemorate World Health Day, a date that holds special significance this year. Under the slogan “Together for Health. Support Science”, the World Health Organization (WHO) launches a global call to strengthen trust in scientific evidence as a foundation to protect life in all its forms.

The campaign, designed to run throughout 2026, focuses on a clear message: science is not just knowledge—it is action. From disease prevention to responses to health emergencies, scientific collaboration has proven to be a decisive tool in tackling global challenges. However, the WHO warns that these advances are only sustainable if translated into public policies, international cooperation, and citizen engagement.

In this context, the concept of “One Health” becomes especially relevant. This approach recognizes the interdependence between human, animal, plant, and environmental health, emphasizing that present—and future—health crises require integrated and coordinated responses.

As part of this global mobilization, two high-level events mark a milestone in international scientific cooperation. On one hand, the International One Health Summit, held from April 5–7 with the support of the French Government. On the other, the WHO Global Forum of Collaborating Centers, taking place from April 7–9, bringing together, for the first time, scientific institutions from more than 80 countries.

Together, these events form the largest scientific network ever assembled around a United Nations agency. Beyond the numbers, the message is clear: science, when shared and collectively promoted, has the power to transform realities and save lives.

The WHO emphasizes that equitable access to knowledge and healthcare remains a global challenge. Therefore, together with its partners, it continues strengthening research systems, promoting the dissemination of evidence, and supporting countries in developing their own scientific capacities.

The call to action is direct: prioritize evidence, trust data, and support science-guided health. In a context where misinformation can cost lives, investing in rigorous knowledge is also a way to protect the future.

On World Health Day 2026, science is presented not only as an ally but as a common language capable of uniting the world in the face of shared challenges. As the WHO reminds us, only by working together can we build a healthier, safer, and more sustainable planet for all.
