Cuba, with one of the highest aging rates in Latin America, has accumulated valuable experience in caring for older people. This reality has led to the development of specialized academic training in Gerontology and Geriatrics, aimed at professionals interested in providing holistic care to this growing population.
What Are Gerontology and Geriatrics?
Gerontology studies aging in its many dimensions: scientific, social, psychological, demographic, political, economic, and educational. Geriatrics, on the other hand, focuses on medical care for older adults, covering clinical, preventive, and therapeutic aspects. Both disciplines are complementary and essential to address the challenges of an aging population.
A High-Quality Academic Program
The Cuban Gerontology and Geriatrics program offers structured training through 18 specialized modules, organized into four key areas:
Medical Care: 14 modules dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of common diseases in old age.
Administration: Training for managing services and programs for older adults.
Research: Education in methodologies for the study of aging and continuous care improvement.
Teaching: Pedagogical tools to train other professionals in this field.
This comprehensive approach equips students to work competently in various contexts, promoting healthier and more active aging.
Why Study in Cuba?
Cuba offers solid and up-to-date training, backed by its extensive experience in managing an aging population and its internationally recognized tradition in medicine and public health. Graduates of this specialty will be able to apply their knowledge across different healthcare systems, supported by a rigorous and multidisciplinary academic foundation.
