Every December 3rd, we celebrate a date of great significance for our region: Latin American Medicine Day. This commemoration honors the birth of the renowned Cuban physician Dr. Carlos Juan Finlay y Barrés, born in Camagüey in 1833. His invaluable contribution in identifying the Aedes aegypti mosquito as the vector of yellow fever marked a turning point in the history of medicine and the fight against epidemics.

Dr. Finlay, recognized for his scientific rigor and pioneering vision, left a legacy that transcends generations. His discovery not only revolutionized the management of yellow fever but also laid the foundation for understanding how biological agents can transmit diseases, transforming global public health.

Today, on the 191st anniversary of his birth, we remember his example of dedication, effort, and commitment to human well-being. As we celebrate his legacy, we also pay tribute to all health workers who, with courage and vocation, follow in his footsteps. To those working in hospitals, clinics, laboratories, and communities, as well as collaborators who extend their knowledge and humanity beyond our borders, we express our deepest gratitude.

Thank you for being the force that sustains and protects the health of our people. You are the continuation of a story of devotion and love for life.

To all health workers, our respect and congratulations on this Latin American Medicine Day!
