Genetic counseling has become a fundamental pillar for those facing diagnoses or risks of hereditary genetic conditions. With advancements in genetics and genomics, the need to understand and adapt to the results of genetic studies has grown exponentially in recent decades.

As part of our Postgraduate Academic Services offerings, we are pleased to present the Master's Degree in Genetic Counseling, coordinated by the Centro Nacional de Genética Médica (CNGM) of the prestigious University of Medical Sciences of Havana. With over 25 years of experience in implementing community-based programs in the provision of Clinical Genetics services, the CNGM has been approved as a WHO Collaborating Centre for the Development of Genetic Approaches in Health Promotion since 1986.

The program of this master's degree features a performance-based exit profile, offering rigorous theoretical-methodological training distributed across four fundamental areas: Basic Principles of General Genetics, Basic Principles of Human Genetics, Research Methodology, and Genetic Counseling. It focuses on practical development through training in genetic consultations and research work.

Graduates, commonly referred to as "Genetic Counselors," will be experts in identifying families at genetic risk, inheritance, and the probability of recurrence of the disorder in question. Additionally, they will be trained to provide psychological support, offer reproductive options, treatments, and medical follow-up, as well as influence the community to carry out the prevention of genetic diseases and congenital defects at the community level.

The duration of this program is one year, making it an accessible and effective option for those interested in delving into this relevant field.

If you are interested in training in this discipline, we invite you to contact the Coordination and Processing Center of the Commercialization of Cuban Medical Services, S.A. via email at docencia@smcsalud.cu.

Don't miss the opportunity to be part of the next generation of genetic counseling experts in Cuba!
