Ms. Areña Fraga also spoke about the possibilities offered by the medical services area to foreign investment, explaining that "today the projects are being expanded so that they are increasingly varied and capable of involving all related sectors".
Proposals are included with a view to the construction, remodeling, restoration and commercialization of Wellness and Health Centers in Thermo-medicinal Water Spas. The fact is that the largest Antillean Island treasures a history of use and exploitation of these waters long before the country was promoted as a sun and beach destination.
Thermalism, as in other regions of the planet, can constitute for the Antillean archipelago an estimable potential of constant and growing economic contribution, taking advantage of that valuable resource offered by nature, because according to experts, the mineral-medicinal waters of this Island are of as good quality as the best in the world, and in their interaction with our climate, gases, vapors and peloïdes provide as a result, a therapeutic of excellence, very demanded by the connoisseurs of this thematic at global level.
Therefore, these are attractive for the development of this modality and to promote Cuba as a destination of the thermal tourism product in the Caribbean, in combination with physiotherapy services, alternative therapies and other leisure and wellness services for preventive, curative and rehabilitation purposes, in addition to promoting healthy lifestyles.
Regarding the strengths of the anti-addiction clinics to be part of health tourism projects and be of interest for foreign capital investment, the First Vice President explained that "the international health centers Cocal-Quinqué, Colibrí and El Yarey, in Holguín, Santiago de Cuba and Granma, respectively, stand out precisely because of the properties of their natural environment and the pure air that favor meditation and a pleasant stay for the patient and his or her companion. In addition to this, there is a quality hotel service, multidisciplinary medical coverage with more than 30 years of experience and a comprehensive approach in the Therapeutic Community for the development of the Integral Program for the Treatment of Addictive Disorders in Cuba, as well as a 24-hour nursing service".
In addition, the development of an International Health, Wellness and Quality of Life Center and an Assisted Reproduction Clinic, given the high prevalence of problems related to fertility disorders in the region and in the world.
The portfolio of opportunities also includes projects that seek the incorporation of state-of-the-art technology and international quality standards, such as: the production and commercialization of materials for the optics sector, including the provision of services for this purpose; the production of orthotics of high international standard; technological investment in the production of implants and surgical instruments; and the recovery of medical equipment and surgical instruments.
The aforementioned projects and those that are about to enter the portfolio constitute an opportunity for the health business sector, oriented to the export of goods and services, with the aim of sustaining and developing the Cuban National Health System, which is universal and free for all its citizens.
