It is as important for people to enjoy a relaxing vacation in a beautiful and natural environment as it is to take care of their physical and mental well-being. That is why, among their leisure options, they are increasingly looking for tourist destinations that offer them the possibility of living both experiences. Cuba offers, within its portfolio of medical wellness services, programs that integrate leisure time with concern for aesthetics, functional health and the incorporation of healthy lifestyle habits.

One of the premises of the Cuban Medical Services, which is in charge of providing these options and connecting potential users, is that tourists do not have to be confined to a clinic, but have access to Specialized Wellness services from the comfort of their hotel accommodation.

Dr. Ileana Reyes Álvarez, head of International Sales at CSMC, S.A., explains: “What sets us apart is our mentorship approach. Each client partners with a VitalCuba expert, selected for their professionalism and expertise, to co-create a program that maximizes cutting-edge medical and technological resources. By merging the traveler’s preferences with scientific insight, we deliver tangible biopsychosocial benefits.”

The portfolio of services in wellness tourism (Specialized Wellness) offered by Cuban Medical Services, which can be accessed through its e-mail smc@smcsalud.cu
or the different platforms designed for this purpose, as well as through the contact numbers of the Central Processing and Coordination Office, includes the use of natural medicine, the application of facial and body dermatocosmetics with the different advances in science and technology; physical and rehabilitative activities, with different types of massage for therapeutic purposes; mentoring that addresses important areas of health: nutrition, sexuality, perimenopause and aesthetics, among others.

It also offers sleep studies and animal-assisted wellness programs (zoo therapy), oriental and western medicine (acupuncture, relaxation methods, tai chi, yoga).

Dr. Ileana Reyes Álvarez states that she always relies on the opinion and diagnosis of experts. “When it comes to cosmetology, it is the professional who determines the condition of the client's skin and whether they suffer from dry or oily skin, have a precancerous lesion or a keratosis, and depending on this, action is taken.”

The same happens with physical exercises or rehabilitation. The physiatrist assesses each client’s mobility based on their current age and designs tailored activities —from posture correction to lower-body strengthening— to restore optimal function.

“Wellness isn’t about curing illness, it’s about seizing the human and genetic potential and empowering healthy lifestyles. This is what we are betting on and what we want to introduce to the market: the combination of the guidance of a VitalCuba expert with targeted, multidisciplinary, and personalized strategies, because it depends on how the person has lived and what risks he or she is exposed to in his or her daily life.”
