In a world where lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer-related deaths—accounting for around 25% of all cancer fatalities—Cuba offers an alternative that makes a difference: therapeutic vaccines developed on the Island that are already improving the quality and expectancy of life for patients in advanced stages.

Through the Comercializadora de Servicios Médicos Cubanos, S.A (CSMC, S.A.), a comprehensive treatment program is available for people with stage IIIB and IV non-small cell lung cancer, based on two immunotherapies created by Cuba’s biotechnology sector: CIMAvax–EGF® and Vaxira®.

Cuban Immunotherapy: Science in the Service of Life

Both vaccines are the result of the experience of Cuban biotech researchers, clinical trials conducted by professionals at the National Institute of Oncology and Radiobiology (INOR), and ongoing medical practice across Cuba’s oncology services.

CIMAvax–EGF®
targets the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), which is involved in tumor cell growth. It stimulates the immune system to intervene without compromising the patient's quality of life. It has shown good tolerance, even in older adults. The vaccine is administered intramuscularly in two phases: an initial five-dose cycle over 14 days, followed by a monthly maintenance schedule.

Vaxira®
is indicated after the patient has completed first-line chemotherapy or radiotherapy. It helps control tumor growth and improves symptoms such as shortness of breath, fatigue, and emotional well-being. It is administered subcutaneously, also in two phases: an induction phase with five doses every 14 days, and a maintenance phase every 28 days.

These therapies aim not only to slow the progression of the disease but also to improve breathing, physical condition, and emotional health. They follow a step-by-step treatment schedule tailored to the patient’s clinical evolution and monitored under strict medical supervision.

Personalized Assessment and Multidisciplinary Care

Before starting treatment, each patient is assessed by a multidisciplinary team of nationally and internationally certified specialists—oncologists, internists, radiologists, pathologists, hematologists, and surgeons. This team designs a personalized treatment plan based on the diagnosis and clinical condition.

Both CIMAvax–EGF® and Vaxira® have shown positive results in Cuban and international patients. It’s not just about living longer—it’s about living better.
