This academic program, with a systemic-structural approach, will be carried out over four years in a full-time modality, requiring the resident’s in-person attendance for training within the healthcare services of accredited adult clinical-surgical hospitals authorized for postgraduate education. It is organized into clinical placements and rotations across various surgical specialties, which contribute at different stages of the training process. In all of them, the professional component of comprehensive medical-surgical care is integrated with academic, research, and management activities.

Accordingly, 14 areas of knowledge are structured and distributed into 40 modules, grouping related content by subjects, knowledge, and skills to be acquired by the resident. These are organized with a systemic approach, progressively increasing in complexity and integration, aiming for a high level of proficiency and depth.

Graduates of the General Surgery specialty program are competent professionals capable of performing functions in comprehensive medical-surgical care, research, teaching, and management, acquired through this academic specialization program. Upon completion, they will apply these competencies in the comprehensive surgical management of patients requiring such care.
