Internal Medicine is the branch of medicine that deals with the study of conditions of the internal systems of the adult individual, their prevention and treatment through personal and continuous care with a comprehensive conception of the individual as a biological, psychic, and social unit, to provide solutions to a large number of medical problems defined for their care.
It is the representative specialty of the clinical method from its emergence to the present. Due to its position as a specialty, it is the main promoter of the excellent use of the clinical method used by all specialties in healthcare, hence its historical, social, and cultural importance.
This specialty, due to its broad profile, trains graduates with the potential to participate in research in areas of medical care, but also in teaching and management of processes.
The modes of action of this specialist are defined for four basic functions, which are: medical care, teaching, research, and management, distributed in 18 modules in 3 years of full-time residency in on-the-job training.
