Ophthalmology is the branch of medicine that addresses the study of the visual system and the organ of vision, as well as its appendages. It is a medical-surgical specialty that encompasses a broad field of knowledge and is directly related to the functions of prevention in healthy individuals and cure and rehabilitation in people sick from the various acute and chronic conditions of this system.
The Ophthalmology specialty program is structured for three academic years in which the resident will be full-time in their teaching, healthcare, administrative, and research activity in this specialty. The Curriculum is composed of five Areas of Training or areas of knowledge, and the module is its organizational structure, extending to 22 in total, which have been structured according to the functions assigned in the professional profile and the different conditions that the specialist must address expressed in knowledge and skills, which integrate the knowledge of different sciences, which gain in complexity and integration to the extent that the solution of the health problems of the population so require.
