Otolaryngology is the branch of medicine that deals with the study of the auditory, respiratory, and upper aerodigestive systems, including the nasal cavities, paranasal sinuses, pharynx, esophagus, and larynx, the latter also forming part of the speech apparatus. It is a surgical specialty that covers a broad field of knowledge and is directly related to the functions of prevention, rehabilitation, and cure of healthy and sick individuals.
