The Pepe Portilla Provincial Pediatric Hospital, built between 1926 and 1948, began as a mutualist center made up of different pavilions. Since 1977, it has been under the authority of the Provincial Health Department, then led by Dr. Teobaldo Triana Torres. In 1981, the hospital was expanded with the creation of the Intensive Care, Oncohematology, and Nutrition Services, as well as the Academic Block. In 1988, it was declared a Model Unit, a status that was reaffirmed in 1994. The hospital covers a territorial area of 19,680 m². Behind the hospital is the Pediatric Specialties Polyclinic, which occupies an area of 4,550 m².
This hospital provides comprehensive medical, academic, and research services. It maintains a highly qualified human resources team and serves as a pediatric reference center at the provincial, national, and international levels. The institution has two beds dedicated to the care of international patients who require hospitalization services, ensuring optimal medical assistance.
