It had its origins in early 1955, when the Dispensary of the League Against Blindness was created. On April 29, 1988, the Center for Serial Ocular Microsurgery was inaugurated at the institution.
This center is equipped with advanced technology and has highly qualified specialists. It develops all subspecialties of ophthalmology, including the most advanced procedures in retinal care, corneal transplants, and refractive surgery. It is a national and international reference center for the specialty of Ophthalmology.
Medical care includes diagnosis, treatment, and surgical solutions. Emergency, outpatient, and inpatient services are offered. It is equipped with state-of-the-art technology where the most modern examinations are performed for the diagnosis of different ophthalmological conditions, as well as the application of novel surgical techniques. It has all ophthalmological subspecialties and other medical and diagnostic specialties, such as Clinical Laboratory, Radiology, Immunology, Anesthesiology, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Stomatology, and Pathology. The institution enjoys national and international prestige.
It is the core of the interrelationships with the Orbis International Project and with the C.B.M. organization, which have allowed a fluid scientific exchange in the advance towards other stages.
