
The Institute of Hematology and Immunology (IHI) was founded on December 2, 1966, and is distinguished by its scientific rigor, competence, and the unconditional sense of belonging of its workers.
It is the scientific research center in Hematology, Immunology, and Transfusion Medicine that prioritizes the National Programs of Hematology, Immunodiagnostics, and others related to comprehensive medical care for patients with hemophilia, sickle cell disease, and leukemia, and the National Functional Group of Regenerative Medicine in the Ministry of Public Health, acting as the Coordinating Center for activities related to the introduction and extension of cell therapy in the country.
Through its researchers, the institution participates in various international working groups, mainly in Latin America and the Caribbean. Several of its specialists are members of the International Societies of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, the World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH), the Latin American Association of Immunology (ALAI), the Latin American Society for Primary Immunodeficiencies (LASID), the Latin American Society for Bone Marrow Transplantation, the Latin American Registry of Primary Immunodeficiencies (RLAID), and other regional organizations. Many participate in advisory committees of national and foreign scientific publishers and maintain scientific-technical exchange and collaboration relationships with international organizations, non-governmental organizations, and prestigious scientific institutions and figures from Europe, America, and Asia.
