It is the institution that acts as the leading methodological center in research, medical care, and teaching of oncology and the fight against cancer, representing Cuba before international institutions in all matters related to the specialty, responsible for the development of the Science and Technological Innovation Plan; the training of Human Resources in Oncology; the development of the Doctoral Program; the Cancer Control Programs; international collaboration; and the provision of highly qualified Healthcare and Scientific-Technical services, aimed at both the Cuban population and that of other countries.

Knowing that cancer is a disease that constitutes a serious problem for human health and its incidence increases proportionally with the quantity and quality of medical services, patients who come to the service for the first time receive a comprehensive medical evaluation, which guarantees adequate care and classification performed by specialists with a scientific level, according to the institution. A high-quality medical history is prepared, and patients are evaluated in specialized multi- and interdisciplinary consultations, where the diagnosis and course of action are defined.
