Cardiovascular Anesthesiology is perioperative medicine applied during Cardiac Surgery. The anesthesiologist requires prior in-depth knowledge of the functional status of the cardiovascular system, which allows them to develop skills and adequate preparation for the different anesthetic procedures and their risks, which professionally qualifies them for their performance.

In addition, outside the operating room, they perform multiple functions related to cardiovascular surgery (CCV) and cardiology, such as in the interventional cardiology department, which includes diagnostic and/or therapeutic catheterization, anesthesia for valvuloplasties and other percutaneous invasive procedures, cardiac electrophysiology for synchronized cardioversion, transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography, imaging, hyperbaric chamber, cardiopulmonary and cerebral resuscitation, placement of devices for percutaneous Tandem Heart ventricular assist, this diversity of procedures means that the anesthesiologist has to decide the degree of depth of analgesia and sedation to apply, which can range from general intravenous or orotracheal anesthesia, neuroaxial techniques, as well as care and ideal monitoring in this environment.

The objective of this Master's Degree is for the anesthesiologist, during the educational process, to acquire superior preparation for the care, safety, and anesthetic management of cardiac patients, proposed for major surgical interventions, both cardiac and non-cardiac, as well as post-anesthetic intensive care. In turn, to have a broad scientific and investigative mastery of the high technology of monitoring and treatment that is used in the perioperative period of cardiovascular surgery, as well as to optimize medical action, in the face of any complication that may arise.
