The Pedro Kourí Institute of Tropical Medicine (IPK) offers the Master’s Program in Infectology and Tropical Diseases in accordance with the guidelines of the Cuban National Health System, fulfilling one of the Institute’s objectives: to contribute to the fight against infectious and parasitic diseases in Cuba and worldwide.
This program, designed for physicians, has successfully completed 30 editions and currently has two ongoing. Its main objective is to provide basic multidisciplinary knowledge that enables a comprehensive approach to the infectious health–disease process, as well as to offer theoretical and practical training for clinical diagnosis, supported by laboratory work, and to ensure an integral therapeutic prescription for infectious, tropical, and parasitic diseases.
The program consists of three independent but interrelated postgraduate diplomas: Scientific Research in Health, Basic Principles of Infectology and Tropical Medicine, and Infectious Syndromes of Current Clinical–Epidemiological Importance. Clinical and research activities include exchanges with professors and tutors during hospital ward rounds. As part of the diplomas, a total of 14 independent courses are taught, along with three integrative exercises (one per diploma), three thesis workshops, and a final methodological workshop.
The program concludes with the presentation and defense of a research thesis, which in all cases must correspond to one of IPK’s established research lines.
