The Master’s Degree in Parasitology has been offered at the Pedro Kourí Institute of Tropical Medicine (IPK) since 1991, and is rooted in the pioneering work of its founder, Professor Pedro Kourí, in the field of parasitological research. The program is open to both Cuban and international professionals.

Its faculty is composed of medical researchers, graduates, and engineers from IPK, as well as distinguished scientific experts from other Cuban institutions with extensive experience in this area of health. These professors lead diverse parasitology research projects aligned with national health programs of the Cuban Ministry of Public Health, as well as with international initiatives.

Upon completion, graduates of the Master’s Degree in Parasitology will be able to:

Identify the main parasitic agents of medical importance.
Understand host–parasite relationships, including intermediate hosts and vectors of medical relevance.
            Analyze immune response mechanisms.
Apply effective prevention and control measures for parasitic diseases.
The program is structured into three interrelated diplomas:
            Scientific Research in Health
            Medical Parasitology
            Diagnosis and Basic Research

Within these diplomas, students complete 12 independent courses, three integrative exercises (one per diploma), four thesis workshops, and a final methodological workshop. The program culminates with the defense of a Master’s Thesis, which always addresses one of the IPK’s prioritized research lines.
