The Master’s Degree in Drug Use Prevention is an academic training program offered by the University of Medical Sciences of Havana. It is structured into 17 courses that prepare students both for research in this field (e.g., Philosophy and Society, Health Information Management, Research Methodology, Statistics, Qualitative Research) and for the development of competencies in addiction prevention and care (e.g., Theoretical Bases of Drug Dependence, Health Promotion and Education, Epidemiology and Addictions, Legal Drugs, Illegal Drugs, Research on Prescription Drugs and Chemical Precursors, Adolescence and Drug Dependence, Toxicological Aspects of Drug Abuse and Acute Intoxication Care, Psychological Research in Addictions, Family and Community Research, Ethical and Medico-Legal Aspects of Drug Misuse, Cuban Strategy for the Prevention of Drug Illicitness).
This program is designed for in-person delivery with virtual support and includes practical activities in academic, outpatient, and residential settings. Each course is independently assessed, and the program culminates in the development, presentation, and defense of a Master’s Thesis research project, under the guidance of an academic committee and a highly qualified faculty body.
