The Pedro Kourí Institute of Tropical Medicine (IPK) has been offering the Master’s Degree in Virology since 1996.
The program is aimed at both Cuban professionals and those from developing and developed countries, with the primary objective of enabling them to acquire and update knowledge, skills, and attitudes related to virology techniques and procedures that contribute to solving health problems.
It is supported by a highly qualified faculty with extensive experience in the field of virology. They are members of the IPK’s Department of Virology, which is also a PAHO/WHO Collaborating Center for Dengue Research and Control, a Subregional Reference Center for Measles, a WHO-certified National Center for Influenza and other respiratory virus studies, as well as for Poliovirus studies.
The program is structured into three independent yet interrelated diploma courses: Scientific Research in Health, General Principles of Virology, and Viral Infectious Diseases. As part of these diploma courses, the curriculum includes a total of 11 independent courses, three integrative exercises (one for each diploma), five thesis workshops, and a final methodological workshop.
The program concludes with the presentation and defense of a research thesis, which in all cases aligns with one of IPK’s established research lines.
