Leukemia is the most common cancer in the pediatric age group. Acute lymphoid leukemia (ALL) accounts for 23% of cancer diagnoses in children under 15 years of age and 75% of all leukemias. More than 90% of acute myeloid leukemias (AML) in childhood are acute, and the rest are chronic.

Cuba has a medical program led by specialists of high scientific level for the diagnosis and treatment of childhood leukemias and lymphomas, developed with new biochemical and genetic engineering techniques, which includes:

- Hospitalization in a category I and private room (including meals and nursing care).
- Direct care of the attending physician to the hospitalized patient (includes medical visits).
- Initial evaluation and composition of clinical history.
- Highly specialized complementary investigations with state-of-the-art technology.
