In every corner of the world, March 8 becomes a reminder of women's struggle for their active participation in society and their integral development as individuals, on equal terms with men. Formerly known as International Working Women's Day, this day has become a global celebration of women's perseverance, strength and invaluable contribution.

History takes us back to the Second International Conference of Socialist Women in Copenhagen in 1910, where Clara Zetkin proposed the celebration of "Working Women's Day". Since the approval of this proposal, March 8 has been marked as a day of recognition and reflection on the achievements and challenges women face around the world.

The theme chosen for International Women's Day in 2024 is "Investing in Women: Accelerating Progress," highlighting the importance of empowering women for collective advancement.

In Cuba, the celebration of this date dates back to 1931, but it was with the revolutionary triumph that activities really highlighted the fundamental role of women in Cuban society.

To say "WOMAN" in Cuba is to speak of sensitivity and intertwined strengths. They, who create, persevere, found and love, deserve a constant tribute for their effort and tenderness in various daily areas. In Cuba, March 8 is not simply a date for praise, it is a day dedicated to demonstrating, once again, that the love and dedication of women are fundamental to building a better country and a better future.

On this International Women's Day, we celebrate the greatness of every Cuban woman and renew our commitment to work together towards a more egalitarian and prosperous future.
